What is a Visitors Visa and a Super Visa

Visit Visa (TRV)

A visitors visa or Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is for individuals who would like to come to Canada for a period of less than 6 months. TRV’s are usually issued for a period of 10 years but this is based on your reason to visit Canada and the officer’s discretion. TRV’s can be issued as multiple-entry or single entry, this will be based on reason to visit Canada and the officer’s discretion.

Visitors can apply to extend their visa while being in Canada for a further period. Again extension will be based on the reason for the extension and the officer’s discretion.

It’s important to note that Application Approvals are always at the discretion of the officer assessing your application.

A TRV is an official counterfoil document issued by a Canadian visa office that is placed in a person’s passport to show that they have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a visitor or temporary resident.

If your previous TRV has been refused, this is not the end of the road to visit Canada. You can book a review of a rejected application here so we can advise on if it’s possible to overcome the rejection reason and to resubmit an application that addresses the rejection reason. If you don’t feel comfortable resubmitting the application on your own, please reach out to us here we’ll be happy to assist you.

Super Visa

Super Visa’s are for parents or grandparents of Canadian Citizens or Canadian Permanent Residents (PR) who would like to visit their family for more than 6 months at a time and can stay up to 2 years at a time. Applicants can apply to extend their super visa while in Canada for a further 1 year period. The same as with TRV’s, extensions for super visa’s will be based on the reason for the visa extension and the officer’s discretion.

Super Visa is a multi-entry visa that is issued for a period of up to 10 years. The key difference is that the Super Visa allows an individual to stay for up to two years at a time in Canada, while a 10-year multiple-entry TRV visa would only have a status period for each entry of six months only.
